Parks aplenty
Jacksonville boasts one of the nation’s largest urban park systems, with more than 400 parks and recreational facilities. Leashed dogs are welcome in all parks.
Seven city parks contain dedicated dog parks. These are scattered around the metro area, so visit each as time allows. It’s a great way to learn about your new hometown.
Near Tamaya
Perhaps the most surprising dog park near Tamaya is the one at St. Johns Town Center — Jacksonville’s premier retail and dining enclave just across Interstate 295 from Tamaya. Run those errands then take a doggie play break!
Leonard Abess Park is the closest city park to Tamaya with a dedicated dog park. Take Kernan Boulevard north. Turn right on Atlantic Boulevard, then left on Girvin Road. Leonard Abess Park is the left.
Does Fido need more space to explore? Continue east on Atlantic Boulevard, turn left on Mayport Road, and follow the signs north to Kathryn Abbey Hanna Park, a 450-acre beachside park with miles of trails and other activities. Note that there’s an entry fee.

Head for the beach
Four Jacksonville-area beaches offer the opportunity to enjoy surf and sand with Fido — including the one at Kathryn Abbey Hanna Park. All are different, so note times, guidelines and rules.
Jacksonville Beach is the closest dog-friendly beach to Tamaya — head east on Beach Boulevard. There are hourly restrictions for dogs during sea turtle nesting season.
The public beach at Mayport Naval Air Station is another dog-friendly beach option. Leashes are required, as is staying north of the Navy Marine Corps Relief building.
Finally, Neptune Beach — just north of Jacksonville Beach — is another beach-y option for a leashed Fido.
