Jacksonville Events and Festivals

Moving to Tamaya, ICI Homes’ master-planned community southeast of Jacksonville, means plenty of neighborhood activities to enjoy without ever having to, well, leave the neighborhood.

Tamaya’s community lifestyle coordinators keep the action going year-round with fun events that range from impromptu pool parties, to dress-up dinners, and everything in between.Jacksonville Events and Festivals

Home base for many of those events is the 10,000-square-foot residents club in the heart of the community. The club’s beautiful interior and landscaped grounds anchor other amenities which you should check out when you visit Tamaya’s welcome center and model home park.

But there’s also more than enough to do elsewhere. The Jacksonville metro area is booming, and its growth combined with history, natural resources and a strong arts community, support no shortage of fun activities (especially musical ones) outside Tamaya’s gates.

Here’s a sample of must-do Jacksonville experiences.

Springing the Blues

The meteorological calendar may insist that spring begins in late March, but longtime Jacksonville music enthusiasts claim it begins each April with Springing the Blues. The 2019 edition was the 29th annual such event. It takes place at the Seawalk Pavilion in Jacksonville Beach, which is an easy drive from Tamaya. Count on emerging, local and legendary blues performers who borrow from a multitude of other musical genres.

Welcome to Rockville

Like your music a little louder? Check out “Welcome to Rockville” at Metropolitan Park! This annual extravaganza — three stages! — happens each May, and spotlights many of the current top bands in hard rock and metal. Jacksonville’s own Shinedown was on the 2019 bill.

Gate River Run

The largest 15K run in the United States — more than 20,000 participants — happens here in March. The course begins and ends in downtown Jacksonville, winds over the St. Johns River and several iconic bridges, and is open to competitive, pro and amateur runners. The first Gate River Run was held in 1978. If you’re a runner, it’s great way to learn your new city.

The Jacksonville Jazz Fest

This music festival dates to 1981 and incorporates myriad jazz-influenced activities throughout several blocks of downtown Jacksonville, including two stages. Expect big names, new talents and jazz brunches. The 2019 Jazz Fest is scheduled for Memorial Day weekend (May 23-26).

The Greater Jacksonville Kingfish Tournament

With all the watery wealth that surrounds Jacksonville, it should be no shock to see a major regional fishing tournament on this list. The 2019 Kingfish Tournament, scheduled for July 15-20, is the 39th annual event. Its home base is the Jim King Park & Boat Ramp at Sister Creek. Enjoy a food festival, exhibitors, fishing-oriented activities, and the weigh-ins for daily catches at the docks.

Kids Free November

Families should mark their calendars! Each November, many Jacksonville-area attractions, museums and amusement parks offer free admission for kids ages 12 and under. Up to five kids get in free with one paid adult admission. The offer is valid all month. See a list of participating venues here.
